"After almost a decade of preparing notes and drafts, officials in the Department of Pharmaceuticals could come out with a draft proposal for a new drug pricing policy last month. That has at least put an end to the continuing uncertainty on the policy front. But it is an incomplete draft in many ways. However, some section of the pharmaceutical industry welcomed the proposals in the draft but healthcare experts and patients groups find it rather deficient in many aspects."
|
 |
|
The disease profile of the country has drastically changed over the years with lifestyle diseases have turned into major killers of the people in the country today. Yet, most of the drugs for diabetes, hypertension, cancer, cholesterol and mental disorders remained outside the price control as the government failed to bring them under price control periodically. The new draft proposal seeking to bring 348 drugs under price control as against 74 in the 1994 policy is definitely a welcome move".

"Making former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam proud – one who sees technology as an instrument bettering the lives of countless Indians and world; a trio from IIT-Kharagpur have come up with an innovative and cheap water filtration system that may make the availability of pure water for millions of poor a reality. Priced at Rs 300, the filter uses four-stage purification process which uses combination of ultra violet (UV) disinfection and plant extracts among others. " |
|
"And making it a true invention, the filter doesn’t require high maintenance, and electricity.
The three students from IIT Kharagpur -- Deepesh Kumar, Pankaj Agarwal and Shobhit Jain, worked hard for one year to come up with this filter. The trio has already applied for three patents — first on its filtration system, secondly the use of plant extracts, and thirdly sand filtration process."

"SiliconCore Technology, a leading silicon based technology provider, today announced its breakthrough 1.9mm pitch LED display panel technology for indoor applications. Such fine pitch designs have not been possible until now due to several limitations, including high power dissipation resulting in overheating, and the lack of high integration LED Driver circuits. The breakthrough technology is enabled by a high integration, low power LED Driver integrated circuit developed by SiliconCore Technology.
The device can drive up to 128 RGB (Red-Green-Blue) LED pixels resulting in a drastic component count reduction. The fine pitch technology also pioneers the use of "Common Cathode" RGB LED topology which |

Innovation is a decidedly tricky thing to measure. Patents are the most widely used yardstick, but they are an imperfect gauge of innovation at best. A report by Thomson Reuters, published on Tuesday, tries to draw a more accurate link between corporate patent filings and real innovation. It does so by measuring not only the number of patents a company files, but also the influence, global reach and success of its patents..
The result is a list of the 100 most innovative companies in the world, not ranked, just in or out. Most of the names on the list are no surprise. Forty percent are from America, including I.B.M., Apple, Microsoft, Boeing, Exxon Mobile and Intel. |

The controller for Nintendo's new console, the Wii U, combines a touchscreen with buttons and analogue sticks to create an interface that's a cross between a tablet and more traditional gaming systems. Players will also be able to use their old Wii remotes, but a recently published patent application suggests these may also be getting an upgrade with the addition of a touchpad.
Current Wii remotes contain an infrared (IR) sensor that detects the position of an IR beam mounted on your television - that's what lets you point and click at objects on the screen. Nintendo's patent describes a touchpad add-on that slips over the existing remote and uses the IR sensor in a similar way.
